Time For Celebrity Big Brother US?

Apparently, Lil Kim, the sort of famous rapper, recently turned down an offer of over $400,000 to appear on the UK's Celebrity Big Brother. She made a counter offer of close to $1 million, but Celebrity Big Brother wisely turned her down. I find it interesting that Lil Kim even considered the offer; she had been in jail up until a few months previous. Why would she want more time without freedom? I suppose, as always, money is the answer.

This story made me think: Isn't it about time CBS boned up and put out a Celebrity Big Brother for the US? I know we already have the Surreal Life, but those are Z-list celebrities and they take field trips and they don't really compete. A Celebrity Big Brother, with a big payday and a big appearance fee, would make some more famous names step into the house.

Of course, Celebrity Big Brother would be a massive undertaking in the US and would take some huge commitments by famous people. The only way it could legitimately happen here would be if Big Brother grew immensely in popularity in the next couple of seasons. The last season of Big Brother, with its All-Star stunt casting, didn't receive as high of ratings as expected.

So Celebrity Big Brother US may be a pipe dream. But, how great would it be if it became reality?
