Big Brother News, Big Brother Spoilers, Big Brother Pics!

As CBS begins to conceptualize and plan for next summer's Big Brother 8, there are many issues worth mulling over. Should they change the game? Should there be rule changes? A new house? A new twist? A new casting philosophy?

Of course, changes will be made, but it's most likely that all of these alterations will be minor. But they shouldn't be. Big Brother is, at present, on the border of becoming hopelessly stale. Something has got to give, and CBS needs to recognize this and shake things up.

Perhaps this is a rash reaction. I, like millions of others, love Big Brother just the way it is. That's why I want it to succeed. I complain that its stale not because that's what I think, but because that is what the ratings tell us. Big Brother 7: All-Stars didn't garner the ratings CBS expected it to. This led to rumblings that CBS was considering retiring the show for good. Thankfully, they have decided to keep it going. But they need more viewers.

Here's my proposal: Change Big Brother to the European format. This means that instead of the House Guests casting the votes to evict their fellow contestants, America would vote(a la American Idol) and choose between the two nominees each week.

What would this would accomplish? The entertainment level would go through the roof. Viewers will not vote for who they think “deserves” to remain on Big Brother. They will vote for who entertains them the most. As a result, the House Guests will spend their time attempting to please the home audience instead of the typical, usually futile scheming. The focus will now be on who can entertain America. Chaos, in a good way, would ensue.

Let's be honest, Big Brother is already low-brow. Just look at most of the people who are cast. CBS might as well go all the way and have some fun with it. Hey, if they want to make the show smarter and cast a bunch of college professors who are strategic masterminds, that'd be great. I'd watch it, but America wouldn't.

If the viewers voted, ratings would probably increase. The game of Big Brother would be fundamentally different, but I think we'd all get used to it, eventually. What do you think?

Absolutely not. BB1 was boring. I didn't watch it after the first few shows and didn't get back into it until BB3. It would be one big boring popularity contest! Boring......

A balance in needed between the boring wait time of BB1 votes and the suggestion of houseguests entertaining America for their votes. An option: America's call-in vote could count as 1 vote or 50% of the vote to blend the style of BB1 and the following seasons. It's important that the houseguests have a say because they are there 24/7 --even with live feeds you don't get to see/know everything. In addition, there are too many ways for outsiders to pump the vote or cheat in this day and age (BB1, Dancing with the Stars, etc.).

I agree it was too boring and to one sided.

I think that America could decide the two nominations, and the house could decide which one goes. There could still be a veto so one of them could save themselves and they could decide who to put up instead, or America could vote for the replacement. No head of household this time either, so there is no place for them to hide out.

Hmm... This is usually brought up every season and the general consensus is that if America were in complete control the show would, for lack a better term, blow. One of the big reasons why the Euro BBs(and Austrailia... and South Africa...) are so popular in their area is because of their culture. We are a very competition driven society, and thus we want to see games. So when given the chance to oust someone who will be interesting or a person who plays the game(even when there is no game to be played) we will almost always pick the interesting person to go.

Now, an America's Veto would be fun to see. Or even have America to vote "Stay" or "Leave" on one person that the HOH picks, and if America chooses stay than the houseguests will vote on another two people. There are lots of different options, but what I guess I'm trying to say is that giving America full control would turn the show into something worse than it allready is.

no!! Big Brother would absolutely SUCK if it had America vote. I do agree that there could be more variations with the America's Choice. Like, maybe one week, we get to choose who leaves. If it were up to me, I would leave the game the same formula as season 7. I don't care about twists. There is enough drama needed.

I agree that we should get to vote, but it should count as one additional vote. The HG's would still vote, our vote would just be an additional vote. The biggest problem with the USA BB show is that they don't play enough comps and they are handed everything. They used to have to win the right to use the hot tub, now they just get it. They should start with the basics and have to play games to get better stuff. These people walk in and have it all so they are real boring and sit around all day. Also bring back the PB&J that other stuff was so lame, and have more days when they eat only PB&J, it really makes them mad and gives me enjoyment!

I´m from spain and I hate european version of big brother, that´s why I watch US BB, people often choose to stay in the game the people who is boring and kick out the people who get into a fight or make it on tv, I don´t understand why
